This webinar provides an introduction to participatory evaluation for community organizations. It walks through key evaluation steps and provide practical tips and tricks using examples from community project evaluations across Canada. It includes the evaluation experiences of the program manager, Laura K. Bird, from the Shift Project with the PEI Human Rights Commission.
Speaker Bio
Amanda Parriag has a PhD in Applied Psychology and extensive experience in program evaluation, quantitative, and qualitative research methods, and communications. A passionate advocate for gender-based violence victim-survivors, Amanda has worked extensively to help organizations evaluate their programs to better prevent and support women and children experiencing this issue. She loves seeing her work used by organizations to improve the projects and programs during the evaluation. Finally, Amanda has lived and breathed issues of inclusion and diversity her whole life and has been bringing that lived experience to work with governments and organizations who are interesting in doing better. Amanda has worked extensively with non-profits including Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada), Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, the National Association of Friendship Centres, the PEI Community Legal Information Association, and others (see below). Amanda volunteers as Communications Director with the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women. Amanda is the founder of the long-running Ask Women Anything program and a member of the Canadian Evaluation Society. She is a past-president of Media Action Média and was an expert participant on the recent federal Roundtable on Youth and On-Line Gender-Based Violence. Amanda recently facilitated an expert panel on gender-based violence at the Women’s March in Ottawa.
Paul Chaulk has a Master of Science degree in Experimental Psychology, a Credentialed Evaluator (CE) professional designation, and 20+ years experience as a researcher and consultant. His focus is in participatory and utilization-focussed program evaluation. Paul has designed, conducted, and/or managed over 65 program and project evaluations across Canada over the past 20+ years in a variety of subject areas, many with ParriagGroup. Paul has extensive experience volunteering with and leading non-profit and professional organizations. He has been a member of the Canadian Evaluation Society since 1996 and has been a long-term volunteer and Board member with the PEI Chapter. Paul is a feminist ally and an Indigenous ally.
Laura K. Bird, BFA, is the Project manager for the SHIFT Project PEI. Laura has a background in the arts, education, and not-for-profit sectors. She has designed and run programs for people of all ages, including children and seniors. The SHIFT Project PEI is an initiative of the PEI Human Rights Commission, with the aim to provide targeted education, awareness and resources to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
