Using Guided Pathways as a tool in public legal education and information

This webinar profiles the use of guided pathways to curate relevant legal information, help users develop an action plan, or complete forms in a specific legal area. Legal Aid BC shares its experience in developing guided pathways on My Law BC. Community Legal Education Ontario profiles its use of guided pathways featured on Steps to Justice. The Public Legal Education Association of Saskatchewan explains how it uses guided pathways on its Family Law Saskatchewan website to assist users in completing family law forms.

Speaker Bio

Candice Lee is the manager of Digital Delivery. She has been with Legal Aid BC for over 25 years and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Candice oversees the planning, development, and implementation of digital solutions, including the LSS websites, online resources, and social media. Candice led the MyLawBC from idea to release in May 2016, and more recently the online family mediation services. Candice enjoys the arts in general, including making pottery and watching films.

Erik Bornmann is a Managing Lawyer at CLEO. He leads the Online Interactive Projects group, a team of analysts, programmers, lawyers, and editors who create and maintain online interactive tools. This work includes the Guided Pathways to family law court forms, a project funded by Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General. Erik is also responsible for CLEO’s research on the ease-of-use of online forms, in partnership with uOttawa’s faculty of law, and models of evaluation for direct-to-public automated legal tools, in partnership with McGill Law and the CyberJustice Laboratory in Montreal. Prior to joining CLEO, Erik served as a lawyer at the Community Legal Clinic - Simcoe, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes. There, Erik maintained a litigation practice with a focus on poverty law, appearing on matters before Superior Court of Justice, Social Benefits Tribunal, Landlord and Tenant Board, and CPP Review Tribunal. He has served on numerous steering and advisory committees concerning information technology and Ontario’s community legal clinics.

Jocelyn Gagne has been a Legal Writer at PLEA for over 20 years. She developed the concept for PLEA’s interactive Form Wizard, for people dealing with family law issues on their own and was part of the team that created the Form Wizard and the Agreement Maker and implemented various improvements and updates. She has also been providing support to users over the six years since its launch.
